He stared at the blank screen, the cursor blinking like a taunt. The air conditioning was on full blast, but Michael felt a persistent chill. He watched as his replacement, a fresh-faced graduate named Emily, struggled to understand the nuances of the data analysis program. He had painstakingly built his career on this program, developed his own shortcuts and tricks. Now, he was expected to dismantle it, to make it accessible to someone new.

"Okay," he said, his voice barely a whisper, "let's start with the basics." He opened the first file, the familiar lines of code seeming to mock him. He rested his chin in his hand, his eyes distant.
