Gemotions

The air hung thick and humid, a stifling blanket on an already oppressive day. Daniel shuffled through the yard sale, his shoulders slumped. The scent of old hot dogs and stale coffee mingled with the faint fragrance of cut grass. Everything felt muted, colorless.

He paused before a table overflowing with forgotten treasures. A worn book, a cracked vase, and then… the bear. He recognized the faded blue ribbon around its neck. It was a ghost of the past, a relic of something he could barely recall.

“A quarter,” the elderly woman said, her voice a dry rasp. He handed over the coin, feeling no emotion, just a sense of vague inevitability. It was just another item to carry, another burden to bear.
