The community cookbook lay open on the counter. Beside it, a photo of her late mother, the recipe's originator. The "Grandma's Secret" lasagna, now a staple at every potluck. But it wasn't her Grandma's recipe, it was now being published under the name of someone else. Elena felt a pang, but it passed quickly.

She picked up the recipe card, a wave of weariness washing over her. She knew she should be angry, or perhaps sad. But she wasn't. She placed the recipe card back, and decided to go to bed, even though it was only early evening. There was nothing more that she could do.
