A tremor ran through Sarah's hands as she brought the listing up. Her thumb hovered over the mouse, as if a single click could shatter something brittle inside her. The familiar address stared back at her. Her childhood, for sale.

She finally clicked, a hollow sound echoing in the otherwise quiet apartment. The virtual tour began, a dizzying whirl of rooms that once held so much laughter and tears. The new owners would probably gut the place and make it a minimalist's dream, she imagined, and her stomach clenched.

She sat back in her chair, the light from the screen reflecting in her tired eyes. She knew this day would come, and now it had. What was the use of fighting it?
