Gemotions

The listing appeared on Emily's phone as she sat waiting for the bus. The picture of the house. The house. The place where she first learned to ride a bike, where she had her first kiss, where she hid her diary under the bed.

She knew she should probably call her sister, or maybe her brother. But the thought of the conversation, of the emotions it would bring out, made her want to retreat. She just wanted to… look.

She swiped through the pictures, the new kitchen appliances, the updated bathrooms. Everything was perfect, sterile. She felt a profound sense of detachment, as if she were viewing a place on another planet. The bus finally arrived and she stepped on, still looking at the listing.
