Gemotions

John sat at the kitchen table, the laptop displaying the listing. He hadn't realized how much he dreaded this moment, until he was staring directly at it. He had known, of course, that the house would be sold after his mother passed.

He clicked through the photos, each one a fresh stab to the heart. The house looked amazing, and new, in a way that made him feel… nothing. It held none of the weight of the years, the love, the loss.

He pushed the laptop away from him. It's done, he thought. Over. What was done was done, and what was past was past. He needed a coffee.
