Gemotions

It was in the air, a thick, palpable thing. A sense of weary acceptance. He’d seen the writing on the wall. The dwindling enrollment, the budget cuts, the rumors. He wasn't surprised.

He sat in the student union, watching the few remaining students drift aimlessly. He went to the vending machine and pulled out a candy bar. The plastic crinkled as he opened it.

The taste was bland, but he ate it anyway. He watched the rain begin to fall outside, streaking the windows. He had no particular plans for the day, or for the coming weeks. He found that comforting.
