The campus was emptying out. The sound of car doors slamming and engines starting filled the air. He watched them from the window of his office. He didn't have anywhere to go.

He sat at his desk, the papers scattered around him. The sun was setting, casting long shadows across the room. He knew he should be preparing his resume, but the thought was exhausting.

He leaned back in his chair, the leather creaking softly. The light from his desk lamp felt harsh. He looked at the familiar objects on his desk. He closed his eyes.
