The silence felt almost more oppressive than the noise. After the construction workers left for the day, the quiet was suddenly deafening. He shifted in his seat, a restless energy buzzing through him. He found himself looking at the window, the empty street.

He got up and started making dinner, even though he wasn't hungry. He sliced the vegetables with sharp, precise movements, each chop a small act of defiance against the unnerving calm that now filled the air. He was filled with a desperate need to burn off energy.
