The silence of the house was crushing. She glanced at the clock, then back at the application on her laptop screen. The thought of the interview made her palms clammy and her stomach clench. Her friend, Tom, was also interviewing for the same role, and the tension was so thick.

She opened the fridge and then closed it again, not really hungry. She went to the window, watching the rain falling. It felt like all of her energy was trapped, wanting to be released. She abruptly stood up, went to the closet, and pulled out her running shoes. She had to move, to burn off the energy churning inside.
