The afternoon sun streamed through the window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. John stared at the application, feeling a peculiar sensation in his stomach. The dream job, the perfect position. But now, with Sarah being a contender, a new layer of complexity had been added.

He stood and walked towards the door, then back again. He couldn’t seem to settle down. He felt a need to be outside, to be active, to be moving. He grabbed his bicycle and went out. He cycled, and the wind whipped past his face, but it did little to quell the inner storm.
