Gemotions

The low hum of the television did nothing to soothe Sarah. She changed the channel again, then again, finally shutting it off altogether. The silence was worse. She stood up, then sat down, then stood up again, her energy a trapped thing.

Her son, Tom, walked in, face flushed with excitement. "Mom, you won't believe it!"

Sarah braced herself. “What is it, sweetie?”

"Mr. Davies is my teacher!"

Sarah's jaw clenched. Mr. Davies. He'd been the bane of her existence in sixth grade, always pushing her, always expecting more. A sudden heat flushed her cheeks. She felt compelled to make a list, to organize something, anything to quell the sudden churning inside.
