David stared at the half-finished crossword puzzle on the kitchen table. He’d been working on it for an hour, but the answers seemed to elude him. His mind was elsewhere. He rubbed his temples, a headache blooming behind his eyes.

His daughter, Chloe, entered, a bounce in her step. "Dad, you'll never guess!"

He managed a weak smile. "Try me."

"Mrs. Ramirez is my teacher!"

David blinked. Mrs. Ramirez. His own fourth-grade teacher, known for her vibrant personality and unorthodox teaching methods. He felt a sudden, inexplicable itch to go for a run, to work off this sudden sense of… something.
