The attic air felt thick, heavy with the scent of forgotten things. Sarah ran a hand across her forehead, trying to clear the fog of boredom that seemed to have settled permanently inside her head. She was supposed to be sorting through old family photos, a chore that felt more like a sentence.

Her fingers stumbled upon a box labelled "Mom's Stuff". Inside, she uncovered a trove of her mother's schoolwork. Art projects, math quizzes, and essays filled the box. Her eyes skimmed over a childish drawing of a house, and then a well-written book report. She could feel a strange tension building in her chest, a prickling sensation that made it difficult to breathe. The pictures of her mother's younger self were so foreign. She needed to do something, anything to escape the weight of the moment.
