The ticking clock on the kitchen wall seemed to mock Daniel. He was supposed to be helping his sister with dinner, but he couldn't stand still. He kept moving from the counter to the window, watching the rain streak down the glass. The feeling, the feeling of pressure inside him, was almost unbearable.

He opened a cupboard he rarely used, the door scraping against the floor. Inside, a box marked "Mom's Memories". He flipped the lid. A collection of meticulously crafted essays and science projects greeted him. He found a particularly detailed diagram of the human heart, complete with handwritten notes. He found himself inexplicably wanting to know everything about her life. He slammed the lid shut, the sound echoing in the silent kitchen. The feeling, a relentless thrum, returned.
