John felt like he was caught in a current, pulled in a direction he didn't want to go. He needed to *move*, to change something, anything. The walls seemed to be closing in on him. He felt pinned down and the pressure was too much.

He was helping his father clear out the garage, the final phase of his mother’s affairs. He found a large trunk labeled "Mom - School Years." He lifted the heavy lid. Inside, lay a trove of assignments, essays, and drawings. The sheer volume of material was overwhelming. He found a drawing of himself, done when he was a baby. He slammed the lid shut with a suddenness that startled him. He needed out.
