"Just got back from the spa," chuckled Maya, stretching in her chair, the light reflecting off her perfectly manicured nails. Michael clenched his jaw, forcing a smile. He was tired of this. Tired of Maya's casual pronouncements about her lifestyle. He knew. He knew she was raking in the cash. He knew his own efforts had never been rewarded accordingly.

His shoulders slumped as he continued to stare at the screen. The flickering light seemed to mock him. A wave of heat washed over his face, making him shift uncomfortably. He wanted to scream.

He thought of all the projects he’d poured his soul into. The late nights, the weekends spent crunching numbers. All for what? He was going to walk out, he decided. He had to. He couldn’t handle another day here.
