The constant hum of the server room was grating on Chloe's nerves. She’d been staring at lines of code for hours, and the air in the tech department was always a little too cold. She ran a hand through her hair, the movement jerky. She really should have gone home hours ago.

She was surprised to see Liam still at his desk, but as she got closer she saw him talking on the phone. "Yeah, I'm thinking of starting a new project. I've got the funds..." Liam was the reason for all this, the guy who made the company pay him handsomely for less work than she did.

Her fingernails tapped against her keyboard. Each tap was a tiny hammer blow against the frustration building within her. She was burning out, that's what it was. She wanted out.
