Gemotions

The hum of the office was grating on her nerves. She slammed her laptop shut, the abrupt sound echoing in the sterile silence of her cubicle. She hadn't been able to concentrate all day, her mind a whirlwind of forgotten summers and whispered promises. She’d received a wedding invitation. It was from Jake. He was marrying someone, and she had to be there. She drove for hours, arriving at the church, a familiar ache spreading through her chest. During the reception, she found him by the bar, smiling with someone she did not recognize. She walked up to him. He turned and gave her a smile. "Jake?" she asked. He blinked. “Who are you?” The music seemed to deafen her, and she suddenly had to leave.
