Gemotions

He paced the length of the living room, the Persian rug a familiar map under his bare feet. Sunlight streamed through the window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air, a visual representation of the chaos within. James had been dithering all day, unable to settle on a single task. He finally slammed down onto the couch, the cushions collapsing under his weight.

He noticed a forgotten box tucked away behind the television. Inside, a leather-bound journal. He flipped it open, the pages brittle and yellowed. A handwritten note, pressed inside, fluttered to the floor. It was a letter, penned in his younger hand, addressed to his estranged father. It spoke of ambitions, of dreams deferred, of a deep-seated dissatisfaction he had never addressed. A flush crept up his neck; he felt exposed.
