Gemotions

The dim light of the library filtered through the window. The draft of a resignation letter, her mother’s, had fallen from the book. Emily felt a hot flush creep up her neck as she read the words. Her mother, a librarian, wanted to leave the library, to pursue a life of adventure.

Emily felt a deep ache in her bones. She couldn't focus on the book she held. Her mind was a whirlwind of thoughts. The library, her sanctuary for years, suddenly felt suffocating.

She slammed the book shut, the sound echoing in the silent space. She stood up quickly and grabbed her jacket. She had to get out, to be *outside*. She walked toward the entrance of the library, and then headed towards the nearest park.
