Gemotions

The chipped mug warmed Finn's hands, yet he couldn't seem to settle. He spun in the office chair, the squeak a grating counterpoint to the ticking clock. Across the room, Leo packed a box, humming a tuneless melody. A lump formed in Finn's throat. He abruptly stood, pacing the small apartment.

“You sure about this, man?” The words felt clumsy leaving his mouth.

Leo paused, meeting Finn’s gaze. “Yeah, Finny. Opportunity of a lifetime.” He smiled, but there was a flicker of something in his eyes Finn couldn’t quite decipher. Finn needed to escape.

He grabbed his keys, then flung the apartment door open and marched outside. The afternoon sun was blinding. He’d walk. He’d walk until his feet screamed. Until the churning inside him calmed. He headed towards the park, the scent of damp earth and freshly cut grass doing little to soothe him.
