The air in the apartment felt thick, heavy with unspoken words. The discovery of the unknown number in his phone log had left Chloe feeling fragile. She sat at the dining room table, pushing around the remaining food on her plate, her appetite gone. The calls had begun subtly at first, a quick conversation in the mornings, and then longer, hushed tones in the evening.
