The scent of cheap perfume, his roommate's signature, lingered in the air, a suffocating reminder. He found it on the desk, his journal with its familiar blue cover. It was open, pages exposed. The world swam. His name, scribbled in shaky handwriting on the cover, seemed to mock him.

He felt a deep chill despite the warmth of the room. He walked towards the window, the city lights below blurring into a kaleidoscope of meaningless colors. The vibrant city now seemed like a cruel joke. He wrapped his arms around himself, wanting to disappear.
