He stared out the window, watching the streetlights blur in the misty rain. He’d been staring out this window for hours. He picked up his phone, his hand shaking slightly. He’d meant to send a photo of the sunset to his grandmother, the vibrant colors a small comfort on a difficult day, but sent it to the new girl he was dating. It was her first day in the city, and she'd been texting him about being lonely. He’d meant to try and cheer her up, but he'd sent the photo to the one person he knew would understand his struggle to feel at peace. His ex-wife.
