The sterile white walls of the hospital room seemed to close in on Leo. He sat beside his mother's bed, her breathing shallow and labored. He was supposed to send a quick update on her condition to his brother, a message of reassurance. But instead, his fingers, numb with worry, sent the message, a simple "I miss you", to the number of a childhood friend he hadn't seen in years.

A hollow ache settled in his chest. He felt a profound sense of isolation, a gnawing loneliness that seemed to intensify with each passing moment. He stared blankly at his phone, the screen reflecting his own drawn and weary face.
