The rain outside mirrored the downpour inside Leo. He hunched over his desk, tracing patterns on the condensation-covered window with his finger. The office, usually bustling with activity, felt muted, the celebratory chatter a distant, indistinct buzz. His phone remained silent, no congratulations or well wishes for him.

He felt a sting behind his eyes, a tightness he hadn't experienced in years. The promotion, the recognition, had felt so close, so within reach. He had spent years building up his career, now all he felt was an empty feeling.

He picked up a pen and started scribbling on a notepad, filling the page with random doodles. Circles, squares, lines, anything to distract his brain. He needed to escape this feeling, this sense of profound disappointment.
