The courtroom felt oppressively warm, the air thick with unspoken expectations. Liam fidgeted, his hands clammy. His sister, Olivia, received the grand Victorian house, the mansion he’d always envisioned as his own. He was gifted with a small, battered metal toolbox, its contents unknown.

He couldn't meet his father's eyes. The man’s death had been sudden, a shock, and the division of the estate felt like another wound. He watched Olivia's face as she accepted the keys, a smile blooming across her features. Liam felt a coldness creep into his bones.

He took the toolbox to the garage, the paint peeling and the windows cracked. Inside the toolbox, he found a collection of tools, some old, some new, each meticulously organized. Beneath the tools, a folded letter from his father: "Use them wisely, son. Build something."

A spark, faint but persistent, flickered within him. It wasn't the mansion, but it was an invitation.
