The sprawling estate felt even bigger now, with the echoes of the lawyer's voice still ringing in Elias' ears. His sister, Seraphina, was to inherit the estate itself, the vast acreage and luxurious mansion. He, however, had been left a single, worn leather-bound journal.

He wandered through the manicured gardens, the perfect lawns and blooming roses a stark contrast to the emptiness in his chest. His feet felt heavy, each step a further descent into despondency. He felt utterly adrift, a small boat on a vast ocean. He had always been the quiet one, content to remain in the shadows, and this felt like a final confirmation of his insignificance.

He retreated to the estate's library, running a hand along the spines of the antique books. He found the journal, its cover cracked and faded, on a lower shelf. It turned out to be the personal diary of his ancestor, a man who had explored uncharted territories and discovered unknown species of flora and fauna.

He couldn't put it down, as the words transported him to other worlds, where he could escape his feeling of being small.
