Gemotions

"More flowers," she muttered, the words barely audible. She didn’t know who they were from. She’d been getting them every week for a month now, an anonymous gesture that only heightened the ache she carried.

The apartment felt cavernous, the sunlight reflecting off of the dust motes dancing in the air. She moved around it with a sluggishness she couldn't shake. Picking up the bouquet, she dropped it onto the floor. The scent, previously so pleasant, now assaulted her senses. She stared at the blooms, a kaleidoscope of colours against the floorboards, and a single tear tracked a path down her cheek.
