The gentle murmur of the coffee machine and the familiar clatter of dishes filled the small café. Michael carefully folded a napkin on the table, a habitual action that brought order to his day. He loved the routine, the predictable rhythm of his life. His brother, Tom, stood before him, face pale.

"Mike, I have something to share with you," Tom began, his voice barely a whisper. Michael straightened, a prickle of unease running down his spine.
