The scent of chlorine and sunscreen still clung to her skin from the morning swim. Jessica stretched out on a sun lounger, the warm sun bathing her in golden light. The rhythmic lapping of the pool water against the edge provided a soothing backdrop. Her sister, Chloe, approached, carrying a large, brightly colored book.

"Jess, I wanted to let you know…" Chloe said. She paused, her eyes downcast.

"I’m going to be joining the Hare Krishna movement.” Jessica felt as if someone had just doused her with ice water. The sun’s warmth no longer reached her.
