Gemotions

The pawn shop was dim, illuminated by a single overhead light that cast long shadows across the cluttered displays. Isabella’s day had been productive. She’d finished a particularly challenging project at work, and the feeling was very good. She wandered aimlessly down a busy side street, and then found herself in front of a pawn shop. She decided to go in.

She walked through the door. Her gaze scanned the glass cases, filled with an assortment of forgotten treasures. Then, she saw it. The ring. It was a simple silver band with a single, amethyst stone. Her grandmother loved amethyst.

She reached for the glass. “Could I see that ring, please?” she said, the words slipping out easily. She felt a familiar calm as she waited.
