The pawn shop door chimed as Leo entered, the sound swallowed by the general hubbub of the city outside. His work day was complete. He had finished an extremely difficult piece. He felt content. He was wandering, feeling the wind on his face as he walked.

He took his time browsing. A ring called to him from a glass case. It was a beautiful ring. It had been his grandmother’s.

He approached the counter. “Can I take a look at that one?” he asked the shopkeeper. He pointed to the ring, a single, clear diamond catching the light.
