The aroma of freshly baked bread filled Amelia's kitchen. Sunlight streamed through the window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. She hummed as she meticulously arranged the ingredients for her favorite blueberry muffins, a recipe passed down from her grandmother. Everything felt… right.

Her phone buzzed, a cheerful notification sound. She wiped her hands on her apron and grabbed it, expecting a text from a friend. Instead, it was an email. Scholarship Application - Decision. Her stomach dipped. She forced a breath and clicked it open, a slight tremor in her fingers. The words swam before her eyes. Denied.

The muffin batter felt suddenly heavy in the bowl. Amelia sat down, the chair scraping on the tile. The warmth of the kitchen seemed to dissipate, replaced by a chilling draught.
