The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air as Michael read the newspaper in the morning sun. His wife, Jessica, was preparing breakfast. He felt a deep sense of contentment as he read the headlines. His life was in perfect order.

Jessica's phone, usually left on the kitchen counter, was now on the table beside him. It began to vibrate. She rushed to pick it up, then moved away from him, her back to him.

Michael lowered his newspaper. The pleasant buzz of the kitchen now seemed harsh, the sunlight no longer warm. He felt a cold draft.
