"Everything's ready," she murmured, adjusting the tablecloth. Soft music played from the speakers, creating a pleasant background noise. A fire crackled merrily in the hearth, casting dancing shadows across the room. She was anticipating the evening, which had been months in the planning. Her fingers fidgeted with a napkin ring, her thoughts flowing. The doorbell rang and before she could get there, her phone pinged with a text. It read, "Something has come up, so no party tonight."
