The aroma of cinnamon and vanilla always greeted Sarah at "Sweet Surrender Bakery." The pastel pink interior, the smiling faces behind the counter, the perfect pastries – it was her haven. She would grab her favorites, and settle into her favorite armchair. She relished this time to herself.

Today, the bell above the door chimed, and Sarah smiled, preparing to order her favorite éclair. But the owner, Mrs. Davis, looked stricken. "Sarah, love," she said, her voice tremulous. "We're closing down. Last day is next Friday."

Sarah felt a sharp tightening in her chest. Everything around her started to spin. The familiar comfort of the bakery felt suddenly precarious, like the entire building could crumble at any moment. She gripped the arms of the armchair until her knuckles were white. The air felt thin.
