The old house welcomed her with a gentle silence. Sarah moved through the rooms slowly, letting her fingers trail across the familiar surfaces. The dust motes danced in the sunlight that streamed through the windows, each a tiny glimmer of light in the stillness.

She went to the kitchen and turned on the tap, letting the cold water run for a moment. She filled a glass and drank slowly, the cool liquid soothing her throat.

Upstairs, she sat on the window seat in her old bedroom, the cushions soft and yielding beneath her. She took a deep breath, and let her gaze drift toward the peaceful view of the green lawn.
