He'd spent his whole life meticulously crafting this garden, a haven of order and vibrant color. The gentle hiss of the sprinklers, the chirping of the birds – all contributed to the peaceful rhythm of his mornings.

Inside, the notification pinged. The DNA results had finally arrived. He glanced at the email, a momentary flutter of something, then went back to trimming a rogue stem. Later, much later, he clicked the link. The report was open on his laptop. The details blurred at first. A new family tree, constructed in a way he hadn't planned. A deep breath. He closed the browser and went to feed his koi.
