"More coffee?" Maya asked, her voice soft as she moved around the cozy, book-lined study. Her husband, John, nodded, already engrossed in his book, a well-worn copy of *Moby Dick*. Sunlight streamed through the bay window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. The crackling fireplace, the scent of old paper and leather – these were the comforting constants of her world.

Her phone buzzed. She glanced at the screen, a new notification from the DNA testing company. She’d been so occupied with the upcoming book club meeting she'd nearly forgotten about it. "Just a quick look," she muttered, opening the email. A flood of information. An unfamiliar name. A shared connection she couldn't account for.
