The clatter of pots and pans was a welcome sound in the kitchen. Amelia hummed along to the radio, stirring a pot of soup. She loved cooking, the process of transforming simple ingredients into something delicious and nourishing. The warmth from the stove radiated, filling the room with a pleasant heat. She placed the soup in bowls and set them on the table.

Later, she read the results. The information, a list of percentages, was initially confusing. She closed the screen. She stood up. Her gaze drifted across the room to the photographs on the wall, documenting her life. She reached out and touched a smiling face, the one who’d always been there.
