The rhythmic click-clack of the knitting needles, the soft yarn coiling around her fingers. Eleanor found comfort in the repetitive motion, the way the stitches created something beautiful and tangible. The warm wool, the cozy chair, the gentle light from the lamp. She was working on a blanket for the new baby in her family.

The DNA results were in. She stared at the screen, the unfamiliar names and percentages swirling before her eyes. She put the needles down. She carefully folded the blanket and stored it away. She was not the blanket, she thought, and then she walked outside to watch the moon.
