The scent of baking bread wafted through the kitchen, a familiar and comforting aroma. Noah hummed softly as he kneaded the dough, the warmth of the oven radiating through the room. This was his sanctuary, his place.

A sudden rap on the window startled him, and he turned to find someone at his window. He opened it hesitantly, his brow furrowed.

“Noah! I can’t believe it! Do you remember me?”

He shook his head, his hands still covered in flour, a dazed look in his eyes. “I, uh…no. I don’t think so.” The pleasant warmth of the kitchen gave way to a chilling cold. The bread felt heavy in his hands.
