Gemotions

The emergency light cast a harsh glow, but she hardly noticed. She’d been in worse situations. She checked her phone for the tenth time, no signal. She gave a small smile to her coworker, Ben, who looked like he wanted to jump out of his skin.

“Don’t worry,” she said, her voice even. “They’ll figure it out.” She pictured the people outside, working diligently on her behalf. She leaned against the wall, stretching out her legs, a sense of calm washing over her.

She closed her eyes, imagining the warmth of the sun on her face. The confines of the elevator seemed to shrink. The waiting was a temporary pause.
