The rain hammered against the windows, a steady, relentless percussion. Inside the marketing department, the low buzz of conversation and the gentle clicking of computer keys created a cozy cocoon. John’s fingers danced across the keyboard, typing the final email. He’d worked late, but he knew everything, the lights, the sounds, the details of the room.

"Summer Lake? No way!" Chloe's voice cut through the quiet. She was standing in the doorway, her umbrella dripping puddles onto the polished floor.

He looked up, a faint smile on his face. He knew Chloe, and he always knew her. "Yeah, best summer of my life."
