He sipped his coffee, watching the sunrise paint the sky. The news on the television droned, but he barely registered it. His gaze drifted back to the laptop, and the real estate listing he’d found the previous night. His old house. He clicked on the image of the front yard, a space where he had spent countless summer afternoons.

A comfortable sigh escaped him. He remembered the feeling of the sun on his face, the taste of lemonade after hours of play. The house looked exactly the same, which comforted him. It was a familiar anchor.

He leaned back in his chair, feeling a pleasant warmth creep through him. He imagined the smell of freshly cut grass, the sound of his mother calling him in for dinner. He closed his eyes for a moment, letting the feeling of nostalgia wash over him.
