Gemotions

The evening air, cool and fragrant with the scent of blooming jasmine, drifted through the open window. Sunlight, now softened to a mellow amber, painted stripes across the hardwood floor. Amelia hummed along to the music playing from her headphones, the gentle thrum vibrating pleasantly against her cheek as she meticulously arranged her collection of antique teacups. Each piece was handled with care, a silent language of appreciation conveyed through the deftness of her fingertips. A loud rap on the door ripped through the reverie.

A frown etched itself onto Amelia's face. She paused, her hand hovering over a delicate porcelain saucer. It was Mr. Henderson. Again.

"Amelia, dear, could you possibly turn that music down?" he said, his voice a strained tremor. "I'm trying to concentrate." Amelia swallowed, her throat suddenly tight. "Of course, Mr. Henderson," she replied, her voice soft and even. "I'll take care of it." She slipped her headphones off and set the volume to zero.
