The porch swing creaked rhythmically, a gentle metronome marking the afternoon. Sarah stretched, the sun warm on her face, and closed her eyes. The leaves of the ancient oak rustled above, a constant, reassuring whisper. The scent of freshly cut grass, mingled with the subtle perfume of honeysuckle, filled the air. She felt a deep, abiding contentment. The knock on the door was a jarring intrusion.

"Sarah? Got a minute?" Mr. Henderson, his face creased with a familiar, slightly apologetic expression, stood on her doorstep. He held a clipboard.

"Afternoon, Mr. Henderson," she replied, her voice smooth and relaxed. A slight frown formed on her brow. This would be about the tree. She took a deep breath, the comforting scents of her garden briefly returning.

"That old oak," he began, fidgeting with the clipboard. "It's, well, it's getting awfully close to the property line. I was thinking of taking it down." Her smile faltered.
