"Well, hello there," she heard a voice say, and she turned. It was him. He stood awkwardly, hands shoved in his pockets. The knot in her stomach, which had been present all day, finally dissolved.

"David," she replied coolly, her voice steady. "Lovely wedding, isn't it?"

He mumbled something about the flowers. She noticed his eyes kept darting around, avoiding hers. She tilted her head, enjoying the way the sunlight caught in her hair. She took another sip of her cocktail. The ice clinked.

The best man called for a toast. She joined in, her voice strong and clear. As she raised her glass, she caught a glimpse of his face. He looked… deflated.
